The UK economy is poised to recover strongly in early 2023 after services firms reported their strongest new business growth of the year in March. and the best performing export since at least 2014.
S&P Global/CIPS said The final British Services Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) came in at 52.9 in March, down from February's 53.5, but still above 50, indicating that British businesses There was an increase for the second month in a row.
The figure was also higher than the preliminary March PMI of 52.8, in contrast to last month's decline in manufacturing.
Tim Moore, director of economics at S&P Global Market Intelligence, said: “March data confirms that. The British services sector returned to expansion in the first quarter of 2023, bolstered by a recovery in orders. As business confidence and consumer confidence started to improve. after falling throughout the past fall.”
The final PMI for British manufacturing and services fell to 52.2 in March from 53.1 in February, in line with the March preliminary figure of 52.2.
